Almost every pitcher that runs down its own front is failing for one reason, and it is not the belly, the glaze or your throwing. It is the last two millimeters of the spout.
So here is what those two millimeters are actually doing, four ways to build them, nine videos from six potters who make it look easy, and checklists short enough to sit open on a phone while your hands are covered in slip.

01 · Start here
The whole idea in six sentences
The only test that matters
Run a fingernail along the outside of your spout, from the belly up over the tip. If it slides over a curve, the pot will dribble. If it catches on an edge, it will not.
Water leaving a pot is deciding between two things: carry on in the direction it was already travelling, or hold on to the pot. It holds on when the surface gives it something to hold.
A thick, soft, rounded lip is a road. The water follows the curve around the corner and straight down your front. A thin lip with a sharp outside edge is a cliff, and water cannot turn a corner that tight.
So the entire job is to build a cliff. You do that in three moves, all of them on the wheel, all of them finished in about ninety seconds: thin the rim where the spout will be, pull the channel in five or six light passes rather than one hard one, and undercut the outside edge with a fingernail so it ends in a corner instead of a curve.
Then check that the spout is the highest point of the rim, because if the rim beside it sits level, the water leaves over the side before it ever reaches your spout.

We could have made this a playlist. We could have made it a wall of text. We did neither, and it is worth ninety seconds of your time to know why, because it changes how you should use the rest of the page.
Watching a good potter pull a spout is wonderful, and it is also quietly incomplete. Somebody who has pulled four thousand spouts is no longer deciding most of what they are doing. They are not thinking about how little water they used, or the fact that they stopped a pass earlier than you would have. So they never say it. A video cannot tell you about the thing somebody is not doing. It simply does not do it, the minutes go by, and you come away believing the gap between your spout and theirs is talent.
Writing is good at exactly that. A sentence can say do not add more water here, however much you want to. A demonstration can only fail to add water, which looks like nothing at all.
Video is better at the things words are hopeless at. Speed, for one: there is no way to write down how quickly a spout gets pulled, and too slow means a floppy spout. Pressure, for another. And the shape of a whole session, including how often a good potter stops and looks at the pot from the side.
There is also a less flattering reason. Watching is smooth. It feels like learning while it is happening, and that feeling is not very honest. Reading a step and then trying to picture your own hands doing it is slower and slightly uncomfortable, and the discomfort is the part that sticks. That is why every technique here is written out as a list first and shown as a video second.
- Read the steps cold. Before you watch anything. It will feel abstract, and that is your brain building the slot the video is about to drop into.
- Watch for timing and pressure. You already know what is coming, so you are only watching for speed, pressure and the pauses.
- Read the steps again. Thirty seconds. This is the pass where the words stop being abstract, and it is the one everybody skips.
- Take the checklist, not the video. Section 13 is built for a phone propped against a splash pan. Short lines, big rows, and you can tap each one off as you go.
02 · The physics, briefly
Why a pitcher dribbles
Water leaving your pot is settling an argument between two forces, and the shape of your lip decides which one wins.
- Left, the thick rounded lip. The clay rolls over into a broad curve, which gives the water a generous surface to wrap onto. Almost nobody makes this shape deliberately. It is simply what a rim looks like if you leave it alone.
- Left, the dribble. The stream turns the corner, finds the outside wall and runs down the front of the pot. Notice that nothing about the inside of the pot caused this. It happened entirely in the last two millimeters.
- Right, a thin tip with the outside face cut back. The surface stops in a corner rather than rolling over, so there is nothing on the far side for the water to reach. This is the undercut, and it is four seconds of work.
- Right, the stream leaves in the direction it was already going. Momentum wins the argument and the water arcs away from the pot instead of hugging it.
What is actually happening
You are not imagining the slow-pour problem
A timid pour dribbles far more often than a confident one. Below a certain speed the water genuinely cannot let go, no matter how good your spout is.
Water coming over your lip has momentum, which wants it to carry on in a straight line, and it has surface tension, which wants it to stay in contact with whatever it is touching. Both are real at the same moment. Which one wins comes down to three things and only three: how fast the water is moving, how sharp the edge is where it leaves, and whether the underside of that edge is already wet.
The wet underside is the one nobody thinks about. On the very first tip, a drop forms just under the lip and stays there. From then on it is a little bridge sitting exactly where you did not want one. If the flow is slow enough, that bridge can drag the entire stream around the corner and down the front of the pot.
Fluid dynamics people named this the teapot effect back in 1956 and did not have a complete explanation for it until 2021, so if you have been losing to it, you are in respectable company. The useful part of all that work is short. Faster flow detaches. Sharper edges detach. Surfaces that shed water rather than soaking into it detach.
Two of those three you build into the pot while it is still on the wheel. The third one is just how you pour, and it is the reason your pitcher behaves beautifully when you are filling a glass and betrays you when you are topping one up.
03 · The anatomy
The four things that decide it
Everything else about a pitcher is taste. These four are function, and all four are decided in the ninety seconds you spend at the rim.

How thick the rim is at the spout
A thick lip is a curved lip, and a curve is a road. Thin the top half inch of the wall before you touch the spout, then thin the spout itself as you pull it. Aim for something you would call delicate if you saw it on somebody else’s pot.
People resist this because a thin rim feels fragile. It is not, once it is fired. What is genuinely fragile is a thin rim on a pot with thick walls, because the difference in drying speed pulls it apart. Keep the whole wall even and the thin rim is fine.
Whether the outside edge is sharp
This is the undercut, and it is the one move that separates a pitcher that works from a pitcher that looks like it should. The outside face of the lip has to end in a corner. If your fingernail slides over a curve on the way up and off the tip, the water will do the same thing.
It takes about four seconds and it is section 7 of this page, on its own, because it is the thing that gets skipped.
Whether the spout is the high point
Tip a pitcher and the water rises to whichever part of the rim is lowest. If the rim beside your spout has sagged level with it, or the spout has flopped back down as it dried, the water leaves over the side and your spout never gets a turn.
Check it at eye level, from the side, twice: once when you finish the spout and once when the pot is leather hard. Clay moves in between.
How wide and how deep the channel is
Narrow and deep gives you a rope of water that holds together. Wide and shallow gives you a sheet, and sheets break up, wander sideways and split in two. Two fingers of width is a good default. Much more than that and you are making a bowl with a dent in it.
Depth matters as much as width. A shallow scoop is really just a low spot in the rim, and it pours like one.

Go and find the pitcher you already own that dribbles. Run a fingernail up the outside of its spout. It will slide over a smooth curve without catching once. Then find one that pours cleanly and do the same thing. Your nail will stop on an edge. That is the entire difference, and now you can feel it.
04 · Before the spout exists

The rule that saves the most pitchers
Throw a good cylinder first and shape it second. A pitcher that was a bad cylinder five minutes ago is still a bad cylinder, only now it has a spout on it.
A spout can only be as good as the rim it is cut from, and a rim can only be as good as the wall under it. Almost every spout problem is really a wall problem wearing a disguise.

Weigh more clay than feels necessary
Two pounds throws a pitcher that holds roughly a pint and a half once it has shrunk and been fired. Three pounds gets you near a quart. Pitchers eat clay in the belly and in the handle, and a pitcher that turns out smaller than you pictured is the most common disappointment on this form.

Throw a straight cylinder and get it tall first
Height is easy while the walls are thick and impossible once they are thin. Pull it up straight, get the wall even, and only then start pushing the belly out. Shaping early costs you the height you were about to need.

Leave the top half inch heavier than the rest
Not thick. Heavier. That extra clay is the material your spout is going to be made from, and if you pull it all away on the final pass there is nothing left up there to move. This is the single most useful thing on this list.

Compress the rim properly, twice
Once when you finish the last pull, and once more after shaping. A rim that has not been compressed will tear the moment you start stroking a spout into it, and it will crack later at the exact same spot.

Put the belly low
A full pitcher is heavy and your wrist is the pivot. Weight low and close to the handle is comfortable. Weight high and far away is a pitcher people quietly stop using. This is why so many good pitchers look a little bottom-heavy on the shelf and feel perfect in the hand.

Measure it against your own hand
Before it comes off the wheel, put your hand where the handle will go. If your thumb and fingers cannot comfortably reach around the form, the handle is going to have to do work it was not built for.

Collar the neck in a little
Bringing the top in slightly does three things at once: it thickens the rim, it stiffens it, and it aims the future spout upward instead of outward. If collaring is new to you, we have a whole page on collaring in.

Rib the outside smooth under the spout
Throwing rings look great and they are also little gutters. Directly below where the spout will sit, take the rings off with a rib so that if a drip ever does get around the edge, it has nothing to follow. Our page on using ribs while you throw covers the grip.

05 · The routes
Four ways to make a spout
They all end up in the same place. They are not equally forgiving, and the one most beginners reach for is not the one we would hand them.

Our answer
Pull it, and pull it five times
The pulled spout is the most forgiving thing on the list because every pass is small and you can stop at any point and look. Nothing is committed until you decide it is. Skip the folded spout for now: it looks easy in a video and it is genuinely hard to fold without creasing the inside.

Pull it, unless the neck is genuinely narrow
On a tall ewer with a normal neck, a pulled spout still wins. Once the neck gets narrow enough that you cannot fit a supporting hand around the rim comfortably, switch to an applied spout: throw it separately, cut it at an angle, and attach it. Fold it, and keep the fold shallow
A wide, low jug has a long rim, and a pulled spout on a long rim tends to spread out into a sheet. Folding gives you a defined channel with sides that hold the water together. Keep the fold open enough that a finger and a sponge can both get in there, because a tight fold is a permanent cleaning problem.

Pull it, then make it narrower than feels right
Small pourers are unforgiving because the amount of liquid is small, which means the flow is slow, which is exactly the condition the teapot effect loves. Narrow the channel to about a finger, make the tip properly thin, and undercut it hard. A small spout that is merely adequate will dribble every single time.

06 · The main event
The pulled spout, in nine steps
The pulled spout, in six steps
Do it now, not later
The spout gets pulled while the pot is still on the wheel and still soft, in the same sitting. A rim that has stiffened even slightly will crack instead of stretching.
This is the method we teach first, it is the method most of the videos below are using, and it takes about ninety seconds once you have done it a few times.

Stop the wheel and dry your hands
Everything from here is still work. Sponge the standing water out of the bottom of the pot first, because you are about to tip a soft pot around and water sloshing inside will do more damage than anything your fingers do.

Damp, not wet
Wet the rim and your fingers lightly. Slip works better than clean water because it lubricates without soaking. Too much water is the number one cause of a spout that flops over, and you will not notice you have overdone it until it is too late.

Set the width before you shape anything
Place the index and middle finger of one hand on the outside of the rim, about two fingers apart. That gap is now your channel, and everything between those fingers is going to move. Wider than about an inch and a half and you are building a sheet rather than a stream.

Support outside, stroke from inside
Those two fingers stay put and act as the walls. The index finger of your other hand goes inside the pot, between them, and strokes down and outward over the rim. The outside fingers are doing at least half the work by refusing to let the clay spread sideways.

Stroke down and out, not just out
The motion goes over the rim and down the outside a little, not straight outward. Straight outward gives you a flat shelf. Down and out gives you a lip that already wants to point at the glass.

Five or six light passes, never one hard one
This is the step people get wrong, and it is the reason a spout tears. Each pass moves the clay a small amount and lets it recover. One firm pass moves it all at once and the rim splits or thins to nothing at the tip.

Look at it from the side, at eye level
Crouch down. From above, every spout looks fine. From the side you can see whether the tip is actually the highest point of the rim, whether it has started to droop, and whether the profile has the little upward flick that stops the last drop hanging on.

Undercut the outside edge
Four seconds of work and the whole page is about it, so it gets its own section next. Run a fingernail or the corner of a rib along the outside of the tip so the face comes back in sharply.

Tidy the rim either side and compress it again
The rim on both sides of your spout has been pushed around. Run a damp finger along it, compress it, and check one last time from the side that the spout still sits higher than everything next to it.

Do it now, soft, on the wheel
Sponge the standing water out of the bottom first, then wet the rim and your fingers lightly. Slip, not clean water. Too wet is the main reason a spout flops.

Set the width with two fingers on the outside
Index and middle finger of one hand on the outside of the rim, about two fingers apart. That gap is your channel and those fingers are the walls.

Stroke down and out from the inside
One finger of the other hand goes inside, between them, and strokes over the rim and a little way down the outside. Down and out, not straight out.

Five or six light passes
Never one hard one. Each pass moves a little clay and lets it recover. One firm pass is how a rim tears.

Undercut the outside edge
Run a fingernail or the corner of a rib along the outside of the tip so it ends in a corner rather than a curve. Four seconds, and it is the difference between pouring and dribbling.

Crouch to eye level. The tip must be the highest point of the rim. Then tidy and compress the rim on both sides of the spout.

07 · Four seconds of work
The undercut, which nobody mentions
How to do it
With the pot still soft, drag a fingernail or the sharp corner of a metal rib along the outside of the spout tip, moving away from the edge. You are removing a sliver so the face ends in a corner.
If you take one thing from this page, take this. It is the fastest move in the whole process and it is the one that decides the argument.
Every other step so far has been about shaping the top of the lip, which is where the water travels. The undercut is about the bottom of the lip, which is where the water tries to go afterward. It ends the surface, and a surface that ends abruptly is a surface water cannot follow.
You are aiming for something like the edge of a good chisel. Not a knife point, which will chip in the kiln and cut a lip, but a definite corner rather than a soft roll. If you hold the pot up against a window and look at the tip in silhouette, you should see the profile change direction sharply.
Two warnings. Do not do it so hard that you thin the tip to a translucent edge, because that will not survive the bisque and it is genuinely unpleasant to drink from. And do it before the pot dries: a leather hard undercut is possible with a trimming tool but it is much easier to overshoot and take the whole tip off.
Then check your work the way you would check anybody else’s. Fingernail up the outside of the spout. If it catches, you are done.

08 · The other end
A handle that agrees with the spout
Sight it from directly above
Handle and spout have to be exactly opposite each other. Two degrees out is invisible on the shelf and obvious the moment somebody pours, because the stream lands to one side of where they aimed.
A pitcher is the only common pot where the handle has a job beyond carrying. It has to aim the spout, and it has to do that while holding a pound or two of liquid at arm’s length.
- Directly opposite, checked from above. Put the pot on a banding wheel or turn it slowly on the table and look straight down. Mark the spot before you attach anything.
- Top of the handle at or just above the rim. Attach the top of the strap high on the shoulder. A handle that starts low forces the wrist to do the tipping, and a full pitcher will win that argument.
- Bigger than feels necessary. Wrap your hand around it while the clay is still soft. Then remember it is going to shrink by roughly a tenth on the way to being finished, and that a wet hand needs more room than a dry one.
- Attach the top first and let gravity do the curve. Join the top, let the strap hang and find its own shape, then bring the bottom in and attach it without stretching it back into place. A handle fought into position holds that tension and cracks along the join later.
- Score and slip both surfaces properly, not just one, and press from the join outward so there is no air trapped underneath. Our page on scoring and slipping joins has the detail.
- Give it somewhere for a thumb. A small flattened area or a pressed dimple at the top of the handle tells the hand which way is up without anybody having to think about it, and it makes the pour steadier.
- Check the balance before it dries. Hold the pot by the handle and tip it as if pouring. If your wrist has to roll to get the spout down, the handle is in the wrong place or the wrong shape, and this is the last moment you can do anything about it.

09 · The dangerous week
Drying and trimming without losing it
The one sentence version
A spout and a handle are thin and exposed, and the belly they are attached to is thick and slow. Everything that goes wrong in the next few days comes from that difference.
More good pitchers are lost between the wheel and the bisque than are lost on the wheel. The fix is boring and it works: slow the fast parts down.
- Cover the whole pot loosely for the first day. Not sealed. A loose plastic tent lets the thick parts catch up with the thin ones.
- Wrap the spout and the handle specifically. A small strip of plastic over just the spout, and another around the handle, buys them the extra day they need. This is the single most effective thing on this list and it takes ten seconds.
- Do not put it in front of a fan or a heater. Air moving across a pot dries whatever sticks out first, which is exactly the two parts you cannot afford to lose.
- Trim it supported, never balanced on the rim. A pitcher turned upside down on a hard bat is resting its entire weight on a thin spout. Use a chuck, a bowl of foam, or a coil of soft clay, and make sure the spout is not carrying any load.
- Check the profile again once it is leather hard. Clay moves as it stiffens, and a spout that was clearly the high point on the wheel is sometimes not any more. If it has settled, you can usually still coax it up gently at this stage.
- Look at the handle join before it dries out. Hairline cracks at the top of a handle appear at leather hard and are easy to close with a little slip and a rib. Ignored, they open up in the bisque.
- Bisque fires to cone 05 here. Nothing about a pitcher changes that, but a piece with appendages benefits from being genuinely bone dry rather than nearly there.
10 · The last chance to ruin it
Glazing without undoing your own work
A bead of glaze is a rounded lip
You spent four seconds cutting a sharp edge into that spout. A thick drip of glaze hanging on the underside of the tip puts the curve straight back, and it fires hard.
This is where a pitcher that poured perfectly at bisque turns into one that dribbles, and almost nobody connects the two events because a week goes by in between.
- Dip the spout end last and lift it out first so the glaze runs back into the pot rather than gathering on the tip.
- Wipe the very edge of the tip while the glaze is still wet. A fingertip or a barely damp sponge, drawn along the outside edge, removes the bead without stripping the whole area. The edge itself does not need glaze to be food safe as long as the inside is covered.
- Check the underside of the spout before it goes on the cart. Hold it up and look at it in profile. A hanging drop of wet glaze is a permanent hanging drop of fired glaze.
- Keep the coat even and do not double dip the spout. Thickness in that one spot is worse than thin coverage everywhere.
- Wax the foot as usual and pay attention to the bottom of the handle, which is a natural place for glaze to pool and then run onto a shelf.
- Glaze fires to cone 5½ here, which is cone 5 with a twelve minute hold. Runny glazes run further at the end of that hold than people expect, so if you are using something mobile, keep it off the last quarter inch of the tip entirely.

11 · Find out early
The pour test, and when to run it
Test it at bisque, with water
Bisque is porous, so it will drink a little. That is fine. Thirty seconds with a cup of water at the sink tells you everything, and at bisque you can still fix what it tells you.
Nobody does this and everybody should. It is the only point in the whole process where you get real information while there is still something you can do with it.
- Fill it about half full and stand over a sink.
- Pour slowly, on purpose. Slow is the hard case. If it survives a deliberately timid pour it will survive anything.
- Watch the underside of the spout, not the stream. The stream always looks fine. The failure happens under the lip.
- Then pour normally, and then stop abruptly mid-pour. The stop is where a marginal spout gives itself away.
- Pour a full one. A pitcher that behaves half full and wanders when full usually has a channel that is too wide.
If it fails at bisque, you can still fix it. A sanding sponge, a piece of wet-and-dry paper or a diamond pad will crisp up the outside edge of a bisqued spout in under a minute. Work from the outside face upward toward the tip, keep it wet so you are not breathing dust, and re-test. This is a completely normal thing to do and it rescues a lot of pots.
After glaze firing your options are much worse. A diamond pad will still sharpen the edge, but it will leave a dulled, slightly rough band across a glossy glaze, and on a dark glaze that band is very visible. It is better than a pitcher nobody uses, and it is a lot worse than thirty seconds at the sink a fortnight earlier.

12 · Troubleshooting
Nine ways this goes wrong
The three that happen first
Find the symptom, and the cause is almost always one step earlier than you think.

The classic, and the good news is that it means your shape is basically right. The outside edge is not sharp enough to work at low flow. Undercut it, and if it is already fired, take a sanding sponge to the outside face of the tip.
Water leaves over the side of the rim before it reaches the spout
The spout is not the highest point. Either it was never quite high enough, or it settled while it dried. On a fired pot there is no fix. Next time, check the profile at eye level twice: on the wheel and again at leather hard.
My spout flopped over while I was making it
Too much water, too many passes, or a wall that was already too thin at the top. Slip rather than water, five or six passes rather than ten, and leave the top half inch heavier when you throw.
The stream splits into two
The channel is too wide and too shallow, so the water is coming off as a sheet and a sheet cannot hold together. Narrow it to about two fingers and give it real depth rather than a scoop.
The rim tore while I was pulling the spout
One heavy pass instead of several light ones, a rim that was never compressed, or clay that had already started to stiffen. All three are fixable next time and none of them is fixable now.
It cracked at the spout during drying
The thinnest, most exposed part of the pot dried first and shrank while the belly was still wet. Wrap the spout for the first day. It is ten seconds of plastic.
It cracked where the handle meets the body
Usually a handle that was stretched into position and held that tension, or a join that was scored on one side only. Attach the top, let it hang, then bring the bottom in without pulling.
It poured beautifully at bisque and dribbles now
Glaze. A bead on the underside of the tip has restored the curve you cut away. A diamond pad will take it back off, at the cost of a dulled band across the glaze.
It is too heavy to use when it is full
The belly is too high, the walls are too thick, or it is simply bigger than a hand wants to lift at arm’s length. Weight low and close to the handle is the whole trick, and it is decided while you are shaping.

Short lines, big rows, and you can tap each one off as you go, so when the clay goes sideways you know exactly where you were. Nothing is saved, so a refresh gives you a clean sheet.

The ones that come up at the wheel
Not here?
Ask whoever is on the floor. Pitchers are the form our instructors get asked about most, after mugs, and nobody minds being interrupted for one.
What is the difference between a pitcher, a jug and an ewer?
Mostly geography and proportion. In American usage a pitcher is the everyday word; in British usage the same pot is a jug. An ewer is generally taller and narrower with a more pronounced spout, and historically it was for carrying water for washing rather than for the table. Nothing on this page changes between them, because the edge physics is the same for all three.
Can I add a spout to a mug or a bowl I already threw?
Only while it is still soft, and only if the rim was compressed. Once a rim has stiffened past soft leather hard it will crack rather than stretch. If the pot is already leather hard your realistic option is to cut a channel with a trimming tool and then undercut the outside, which works but rarely looks as good as a pulled one.
How wide should the spout actually be?
Two fingers is a good default on a normal pitcher, and about one finger on a small creamer or sauce pourer. The principle is that the channel should be narrow enough and deep enough that the water leaves as a rope rather than a sheet. If your stream ever splits in two, it was too wide.
Does the glaze on the inside matter for pouring?
Less than you would think for the pour itself, and a great deal for cleaning and for holding liquid. What matters for pouring is the outside face of the tip. What matters for use is that the whole interior is properly covered, with no bare patches where liquid can soak into the clay body.
Is a sharper edge going to chip in the kiln or cut somebody?
Not if you stop at a corner rather than a blade. You are aiming for something like the edge of a chisel, not a knife. If you can see light through the tip when you hold it up, you have gone too far, and it will chip. A definite corner with real material behind it is both safe and durable.
My pitcher pours cleanly but the last drop always hangs on. Why?
That is the same wet underside doing its job at the lowest possible flow rate, and it is the hardest version of the problem. A slight upward flick at the very tip of the spout profile helps, because it means that at the end of a pour the last of the liquid has to climb rather than roll. Sharpening the outside edge further helps too. Some very small amount of this is simply physics.
Can I fix a dribbling pitcher that is already glazed and fired?
Sometimes. A diamond pad or a silicon carbide stone worked along the outside face of the tip, kept wet, will sharpen the edge and often stops the dribble. The cost is a dulled band across the glaze at that spot, which is very visible on a dark gloss and barely visible on a matte or a speckled surface. It is worth trying on a pot you were otherwise not going to use.
15 · The vocabulary
Every word we just used
- Spout
- The shaped channel the liquid leaves through. On a pitcher it is usually part of the rim rather than a separate tube.
- Lip
- The very top edge of the wall. Used loosely for the tip of the spout as well, which is where most of this page happens.
- Undercut
- A sliver taken off the outside face of the spout tip so that the surface ends in a corner instead of rolling over into a curve.
- The teapot effect
- The name fluid dynamics gives to liquid running back around a lip and down the outside of a vessel instead of leaving cleanly.
- Compressing the rim
- Pressing the top edge of the wall between fingers or with a rib to close up the clay particles, which stops tearing now and cracking later.
- Collaring in
- Squeezing the diameter of a thrown form smaller with both hands, which also thickens and stiffens the wall where you squeeze.
- Leather hard
- The stage where clay has stiffened enough to hold its shape and be trimmed, but is still damp enough to join and carve.
- Score and slip
- Roughing up both surfaces of a join and wetting them with clay slurry so the two pieces genuinely become one piece.
- Pulling a handle
- Stretching a lump of clay into a strap with a wet hand, using gravity and repeated strokes rather than rolling.
- Bisque
- The first firing, which turns dry clay into a hard porous material that can be handled and glazed. We fire bisque to cone 05.
- Cone 5½
- Our glaze firing, which is cone 5 with a twelve minute hold. It sits between cone 5 and cone 6, and it is why glaze results here are not identical to a studio firing straight to cone 6.
- Chuck
- A support, often a thrown cylinder or a bowl of foam, that holds an awkward pot steady on the wheel for trimming without resting weight on a fragile part.
