Raku in Alpine, 2027

All six raku workshops, side by side

Raku is the firing where a pot comes out of the kiln glowing and goes straight into fire. We run it on Dan’s parents’ property in Alpine, twenty people at a time, and it is the one part of this calendar that costs extra. Raku workshops are not included in membership, and they are open to current and past members.

Daytime raku

March 20 and November 13

  • 9 AM to about 4 PM.
  • Glazed pots, flaming cans, every color in real sunlight.
  • $150 a spot.
Nighttime raku

May 15 and September 25

  • 7:45 PM to about 3 AM.
  • Glowing pots under the floodlights.
  • $150 a spot.
Horsehair and feather

June 26 and October 16

  • 10 AM to about 3 PM.
  • No glaze. Hair and feathers burned into polished clay.
  • $175 a spot.

Questions

Before you ask

Which events are open to the public?

The two open houses and Gallery Night. Everything else is for members, and the free weeks are how members bring brand new people in for free.

How do I get a party ticket?

Each party page has a button for its $3 ticket. Current and paused members can buy up to two, one for themselves and one for a guest.

Do events use one of my classes?

Clayraoke and Trivia nights do, because they run during a normal Friday night session. Parties, contests, open houses, raku workshops and Gallery Night do not.

Can I bring a guest?

To a party, yes: one guest with their own $3 ticket. During a free week, as many brand new people as you like, free. On any other night, a guest comes on a normal Bring a Friend pass.

Are raku workshops included in membership?

No. They are the one optional, paid part of the year: $150 a spot for daytime and nighttime raku, $175 for horsehair and feather. Open to current and past members, 18 and up, twenty spots each.

Is Clayraoke and Trivia guaranteed?

It runs every other month, and we reserve the right to cancel a night when interest is not there to support it. Check its page before you plan around one.

Can I enter a contest piece I already made?

Yes, as long as you made it here at The Clay Hole and it is finished by the deadline. There is no start date.

What if a date changes?

This page and the event’s own page change first, along with the studio calendar.

Not a member yet

Almost all of this comes with a membership

The contests, the parties, the free weeks, Clayraoke, and a studio full of people who become your people. Raku workshops are the one extra, and members get first crack at them. Membership is month to month, from $145 at Green Level. Or start with one of the free open houses and see it for yourself.
