No contracts. No punch cards. No surprise fees hiding in paragraph nine. One monthly price gets you a nearly 10,000 square foot pottery studio in Draper, Utah, and this page explains every last bit of how that works.

Pay once a month.
That one payment is the only bill that repeats. Clay and kiln firings cost extra, and we tell you exactly how much.
Come to class.
x4 to x8 classes a month, depending on your level. Every class runs 3.5 hours. Unused classes never expire while you’re a member.
Use everything with your color on it.
Glazes, tools, molds. If it wears your dot, or a dot below yours, it’s yours to use.
Change your mind whenever.
Upgrade, downgrade, pause, or cancel. You’re never locked in, and we never make leaving weird.
You’re not buying classes. You’re joining a studio.

The Clay Hole isn’t a place where you book a pottery class. It’s a studio you belong to. Your membership gives you x4 to x8 classes every month (your level decides how many), and you spend them at whichever class times fit your week. Same night every week, a different night every week, three nights in one week. We don’t police it. Nobody scans you in at the door. The whole thing runs on integrity, and it works.
And your classes never expire. Miss a week, miss a month, life gets loud. Nothing is wasted. Unused classes roll forward for as long as you’re a member. Join a studio, and time stops being your enemy.

Can’t decide? Start where your budget feels easy. Upgrading works any time, even mid-month, and takes about two taps. Downgrading works too (it starts the next month). You are not marrying a color.
Everything wears a dot. Here’s the game.
Walk through the studio and you’ll see little colored dots on things: glaze bottles, tools, molds. A dot is a price tag without a price. It tells you which level a thing belongs to. The whole rule fits in one sentence: you can use anything with your color’s dot, or any color below yours.
The starter shelf. Every member can use these from day one.
The tool walls. Ribs, trimmers, texture toys, the works.
The serious molds. Almost the whole mold room opens at Purple.
x6 buckets open at Purple. The seventh, Dan’s Secret Sauce, is Black only. Green and Yellow can dip too, for a small per-piece fee.
The top shelf. Black Level Members use every glaze in the building.
Not on the menu at any level. We keep a few things around that we don’t supply. Any member is welcome to order their own.
No dot? No rules.
The big stuff has no dot at all, because it belongs to everyone. The x29 pottery wheels, the x2 big slab rollers, the worktables, the kilns: equipment is open to every level, from your very first day. The dots are for glazes, tools and molds. The studio itself is just yours.
One more sticker worth knowing: a few premium glazes wear a $ sticker. Those carry a small per-piece up-charge (mineral prices went a little bananas worldwide, and the sticker is what keeps membership prices from going up for everyone). The membership fee is the only bill that repeats. Two things cost extra, and we’d rather tell you now than have you find out later.

Clay
From $28 a bagA 25 lb bag is a lot of pottery. Yellow saves $2 a bag, Purple $4, Black $6.
One rule: no outside clay, ever. Our kilns are picky eaters, and you’d be responsible for what strange clay does to them.
Kiln firing
A nickel per cubic inchThe first firing (bisque) is free. The glaze firing costs 5 cents per cubic inch, with a $4.80 minimum. Example: a 4″ × 4″ × 6″ piece is 96 cubic inches. That’s $4.80.
That’s the entire list. Membership, clay, firing. Plus the occasional $-sticker glaze or dipping fee, if you choose them. There is nothing else waiting to surprise you, which is exactly how we like it.
The 25th. The only date worth memorizing.
This is the part people find trickiest, so we’ll go slow. Deep breath. It’s actually simple.
Every membership runs on the calendar month, and every member renews on the same day: the 25th. At 12:00 AM on the 25th, the next month’s charge runs automatically for everyone. That’s it. That’s the trick. No anniversary dates to remember, no math based on the day you joined. One date, whole studio.

Read this part twice. We never cancel a membership from our side. Canceling is yours, and it’s easy: log in at me.theclayhole.com, tap Manage Membership, cancel. Do it by 11:59 PM on the 24th and the 25th charge never happens.
Miss the deadline and the charge runs and stays. Your membership then simply ends at the close of that final month, no second cancellation needed. But there are no refunds, ever, even with a really good story. We’re telling you loudly now, while you’re happy and dry, so it never gets a chance to surprise you later.

Busy season, tight month, new baby, big trip. Before you ever cancel, know your options. Most of them keep your shelf, your streak and your seat.

$25 to $50 a month depending on your level, up to x3 months a year (x2 on Black). Your shelf, your pieces and your rewards all freeze and wait for you. Set it up by the 24th at 4 PM. More than 90% of members who pause come back.

The questions everyone asks.
Is there a contract?+
No. Membership is month to month. Stay a month, stay a decade, it’s your call. Cancel by 11:59 PM on the 24th and you’re done, no questions, no exit interview.
Do my classes expire if I miss a week?+
Never, for as long as you’re a member. Unused classes roll forward month after month. Miss three weeks in December, make them all up in January.
Why does everyone pay on the 25th?+
Because one shared date keeps everything simple: memberships run on the calendar month, and the 25th charge covers the month ahead. Join mid-month and your first payment covers the rest of that month, with your full class count. Join on the 25th or later and you simply start fresh on the 1st.
What isn’t included in the monthly price?+
Clay (from $28 for a 25 lb bag, less at higher levels) and glaze firings (a nickel per cubic inch, $4.80 minimum; bisque firings are free). A few premium glazes carry a small per-piece up-charge, and Green and Yellow pay a small per-piece fee to use the dipping buckets. That’s the whole list.
Can I change levels later?+
Yes. Upgrades work any time, even mid-month, with instant access. Downgrades start the following month; just text us at 385-241-5528. You’re never stuck.
Can I pause instead of canceling?+
Yes, and most people should. A small monthly fee ($25 to $50 by level) holds your shelf, your pieces and your rewards for up to x3 months a year (x2 on Black). More than 90% of members who pause come back.
Do I need any experience?+
None at all. Most members walked in never having touched clay. There are x4 instructors in every instructed class, and they teach one-on-one, at your pace, on whatever you want to make.
Can I bring a friend?+
Yes. A guest pass costs 25% of your monthly fee (capped at $42.50), and each guest can try the studio once, ever. If they join that same night, the pass is refunded. The details live here.
What’s open studio?+
Friday evening plus weekend mornings, with no instructors on duty: just you, the studio and whoever else showed up. New-to-pottery members attend two instructed classes first (one, if you already know your way around clay), then open studio unlocks.
What’s this rewards thing members mention?+
Every consecutive month of membership climbs a rewards ladder, with perks stacking all the way up to the three-year mark (where a free bag of clay lands every month). The fine print lives on the physical rewards card at the studio. The one rule worth knowing now: canceling resets the ladder to zero. Pausing doesn’t.

Here’s what we didn’t put anywhere above, because it doesn’t fit in a table: the thing members actually rave about isn’t the glaze wall. It’s the people.
Researchers at the University of Kansas found it takes about 50 hours together to make a casual friend, 90 to make a real one, and 200 to make a close one. A membership is 3.5 hours at a table, week after week, with people who cheer out loud when your bowl survives the kiln. The math does itself.
