Pottery is not one skill, it is about sixty that depend on each other in a specific order. Tick the ones you can already do and the tree shows which ones are open to you next, and which ones are waiting on something earlier. We built it from the lessons already on the site, so every node goes somewhere.
0 of 64Nothing ticked yet. 1 skill is open to anybody on their first day.
The board
Tick what you can already do
Terracotta means open to you now. Green means done. Gray means it is waiting on something earlier. Tapping a skill toggles it, and the whole board reshuffles.
Clay and prep
Before anything is a pot.
The wheel
Centering through to a lid that fits.
Hand building
Slabs, coils and the things the wheel cannot make.
Leather hard
Trimming, carving and everything that happens once it firms up.
Surface and glaze
What goes on the pot before the last firing.
Firing and after
The kiln, and what comes out of it.
Ticks are kept in this browser only. They never leave the device and nobody else sees them, which also means they do not follow you to your phone.
How to use it
Be honest rather than generous with the ticks
The point of the board is the gray nodes that turn terracotta. Ticking something you have done once rather than something you can do reliably gets you a tree that looks good and teaches nothing.

New member deal
30 of 30 discounted spots left this month
Every month we discount 30 new memberships. Then that is it until the 1st.
Tell us where to send it and this month’s deal lands in your inbox. If this month runs out, you get next month’s before it opens.
Almost done
Where should we send it?
Done
On its way.
It should land in the next few minutes. One honest thing while you wait: we are members only and we do not run walk-in tours, so the virtual tour is the closest you can get to standing in one.
Would you want to know if a Clay Hole opened near you?
We started in Draper, Utah, and we would like to be in more places than that. Where they go next is the part we have not worked out yet.
Where are you?
The zip code is the part that counts.
That is how we work out where the demand actually is. The rest is so we know who to tell.
Got it
You are on the map.
Being straight with you: this could be a long wait, and we will not email you in the meantime. If your area is where the numbers land, you will be the first to know.
