20 minutesThe plan is a suggestion built from the state of your work, not a rule. Anything leather hard always comes first, because that is the only job with a deadline.
Three rules the plan follows every time
- Leather hard work goes first. Trimming, carving, handles and attaching all have a window that closes while you are doing something else.
- Wedge in a batch. Stopping to wedge between pots turns a throwing session into a wedging session, which is the most common way two hours disappear.
- Staging the work is part of the session. What gets covered, left open or put in a damp box decides whether next week starts with a crack.
The one thing this page will not guess
How long the kiln takes, and when cleanup starts. Neither is on this page, because we have not put a number on either one. Cleanup is a slider you set, and the studio’s own cleanup page is the one that counts.
Doors open fifteen minutes before a session, and not before
Turning up early does not add time to the plan, and turning up on time with a plan adds more than an extra half hour would.
