Tickets

Three dollars a person, and why there is a ticket at all

Every party this year has a $3 ticket to RSVP. It covers the basic costs of the night, and it keeps the room from filling past the point where anybody can enjoy it. Tickets are first come, first served, and you can buy yours as far ahead as you like to as many parties as you like.

Who

Members, plus one

You need to be a current or paused member of The Clay Hole. Bring one guest at most. Each person needs their own ticket, so buy two if your plus-one is coming.

How

Buy it on our website

Up to two tickets per member: one for you, one for your guest. Your name goes on the list the moment you check out.

If plans change

No refunds, but you can pass it on

Tickets are not refundable. If you cannot make it, give your ticket to another member and text our events line with their name.

The party does not use one of your monthly classes. Events line: 385-441-6379.

The night

Four hours, start to finish

  • 6:00 PMDoors open. Potluck goes out, drinks come out, and the crowd bingo cards start moving around the room.
  • All nightCrowd bingo. The highlight of last year’s party, now at every party. More on it below.
  • 8:00 PM sharpThe raffle. Every ticket you have earned goes in. You have to be in the room to win.
  • After the raffleThe games. One epic wheel game and one epic hand-building game, with the whole room watching.
  • 10:00 PMLights up. Everybody helps reset the studio before heading home.

No pottery that night

No classes, no open studio and no personal projects. The entire space is reserved for the party and the games, so nobody has to work around a wheel somebody is using for real. Saturday open studio runs that morning as normal. The party is the whole studio from 6 PM.

What to wear

Come as you are

No costume, no color, no theme to dress for. Wear something you can get a little clay on, because somebody is going to talk you into a game.

What to bring

A real dish, your own drinks, and your favorite person

A proper potluck

Not a grab-a-bag-of-chips-on-the-way potluck. Bring a dish or dessert you love making, make enough to share, and bring whatever serving utensils it needs. Homemade dishes earn 5 raffle tickets each, so ambitious cooks are welcome to bring two.

We provide disposable plates, bowls, cups, napkins and utensils, plus plenty of ice water. All other food and drinks come from the community, which is half the fun: trying what everybody brought, swapping recipes, and using food as one more excuse to sit down with someone new.

Bring your own drinks

Beer, wine, cocktails, soda, mocktails, whatever you like. Anyone drinking alcohol is 21 or older and keeps themselves in check. Have fun and loosen up, but do not get drunk: there are still people, pottery, tools and equipment everywhere. If you are tipsy at all, take a ride home.

Your plus-one

Every member can bring one guest, at most. Partner, best friend, sibling, roommate, whoever you most want beside you. Your guest needs their own $3 ticket and signs the studio waiver before they come.

Guests are 18 or older, unless they are already a minor member coming with their parent. Guests eat, play the games, join the bingo and earn raffle tickets, which go in under your name. Raffle prizes are for members.

The games

One epic wheel game, one epic hand-building game

Built so a first-timer and a ten-year thrower have the same chance of winning. Playing is encouraged and never required. Plenty of people spend the whole time cheering, and the cheering decides most of the winners.

On the wheel side

Beach Ball Bracket

Head-to-head duels on the wheel with the bracket up on the big screen. Before every duel we toss a beach ball into the crowd, and whatever challenge lands under the catcher’s thumb is what both potters have to make in 90 seconds. The crowd picks every winner, all the way to the champion.

  • Eight potters on a normal night, sixteen on a big one, drawn into the bracket from a sun hat.
  • Every duel starts on clay an instructor already centered, so nobody loses on centering.
  • Challenges include tallest, widest, best collapse, a sandcastle, a jellyfish, eyes closed, and one finger per hand.
  • The champion gets 5 raffle tickets, the runner-up 3, and everyone who throws 1.

At the tables

Meltdown

Teams take turns stacking balls of clay into the tallest ice cream tower they can build in five minutes, then the whole room counts down a ten-second melt test. If a tower is still standing, we measure it. If it fell, everyone heard it go.

  • Teams of four or five at the long tables, a bat as the cone, a pile of clay to roll into scoops.
  • Scoops have to be round. One player touches the tower at a time, taking turns.
  • At the buzzer it is hands off, and the crowd counts down ten seconds out loud.
  • Everyone on the winning team gets 3 raffle tickets. Everyone who plays gets 1.

Got a game idea

Tell us. Some of the best ideas we have run started with a member saying “you know what would be funny.” Tell any instructor, or text our events line.

Crowd bingo

The game that gets everybody talking

Every square on the card is somebody in the room you have to find. You end up talking to people you have walked past for months, and laughing at what you have in common. It was the highlight of last year’s party, so now it runs at every one.

12raffle tickets for a completed blackout card
1raffle ticket for every completed row or column
0for diagonals, which do not count
The raffle

At 8 PM sharp, every ticket goes in

The summer raffle is our biggest of the year, double the giveaways of the St. Paddy’s and Halloween parties. There is no limit to how many tickets you can earn or how many prizes one person can win. You have to be in the room when your name is drawn.

The prizes

What is in the drum

  • Five free months of Yellow Level membership, each one yours to give to someone who has never been a member. Worth $170 each, awarded separately.
  • One bag of every clay we stock, 25 lb each, awarded separately.
  • One Clay Hole crewneck sweatshirt.
  • One Clay Hole zip-up hoodie.
  • Two gray Clay Hole T-shirts, awarded separately.
  • More prizes on the way. The rest of the summer list is being picked now and goes up here as each one is confirmed.

The raffle rules

The drawing starts at 8 PM sharp and winners must be present. Raffle prizes go to current and paused members, and to Clay Hole employees. A plus-one’s tickets go in under the member who brought them. Prize models, colors and sizes may vary, and a comparable substitute may be used if something is unavailable.
