Pottery Classes Near Utah City, Vineyard
The Clay Hole is a community pottery studio in Draper, about half an hour north of Utah City in Vineyard. Wheel work, hand building, slab molds, the glaze wall and the kilns, all on one monthly membership.
Most of what is planned around you has a date on it rather than a door. This room is finished. Membership is the only way in, and there are no drop-in classes.
The drive from Utah City
The Greenline runs from the Vineyard FrontRunner station down to the lakeshore, which makes the train a real option here. Driving, it is the connector out to I-15 and then north.
- Vineyard Connector or Geneva Road out to I-15 around exit 272 to 275.
- North over the Point of the Mountain to exit 289, Bangerter Highway.
- West on Bangerter, the 200 W exit, then right on 13490 S.

About half an hour driving. The station is a walk from most of what is currently open, which is unusual enough in Utah County to be worth saying out loud.
FrontRunner from Vineyard station to Draper station, and the Greenline walk to the station at your end is twelve acres of promenade rather than a parking lot. The Draper end is the weak link and finishes as a rideshare.
When you get here
Free and shared with a few other businesses. Anything not marked reserved is yours. It is an ordinary asphalt lot and it has been there for years.
Seven hundred acres, five districts, and right now a grocery store and a pizza place
Utah City is a private development on the eastern shore of Utah Lake, on the old Geneva Steel ground. It is not an incorporated city, whatever the name suggests. It was announced in August 2023 and the plan runs to over seventeen million square feet across five districts, with more than fifty acres of parks and a twelve acre promenade from the FrontRunner station to the lake.
What is actually open is smaller and more specific. Two residential buildings with over four hundred and fifty units. Bella's Market, which opened November 2025. The Berliner All Abilities Play Area, spring 2026. Fini Pizza and Fini Cafe, early May 2026. The Greenline Civic Park, the Racquet Club and UC Hoops.
The Huntsman Cancer Institute building has been under construction since 2024 and is targeted at 2028. The wellness center is targeted at 2027. Most of the seven hundred acres is still construction site or open ground.
None of which is a criticism
Phased development over decades is how anything this size gets built, and the parts that are open are genuinely open and genuinely good. It is just worth being accurate: a grocery store, a playground, a pizza place, a park and two apartment buildings, with the rest still going up.
A big room, and everything in it is included
The studio runs to nearly 10,000 square feet. Membership covers the room, the equipment, the classes and the glaze. You buy clay by the bag and you pay for firing by the size of the piece. Nothing else is metered.
- Four instructors working the room in every instructed class, so nobody sits stuck for twenty minutes.
- 150+ underglazes alongside the glaze wall, plus dipping buckets on the higher levels.
- Bisque firing is free. Glaze firing is 5 cents a cubic inch, $4.80 minimum.
- Clay starts at $28 a 25 pound bag, and the discount grows with your level.
- Your own shelf to leave work on, which is the thing home potters never have.
You live inside a plan. This is a room that is already done
Living somewhere mid-build is a particular experience. The good things have dates on them. The map in the leasing office is mostly future tense. Every month something opens and the thing you were actually waiting for is still two years out.
Twenty nine wheels, four kilns, six hundred and fifty brush-on glazes and two hundred and forty eight slab molds are not targeted at anything. They are in a building that opened in March 2025 and they are there on Tuesday.
That is a strange thing to sell on and it is the honest one. Not newer. Finished.

Four levels, one monthly price
Every level gets the same studio, the same equipment and the same glaze wall. What changes is how many instructed classes are included, how much shelf you get, and how much comes off a bag of clay.

Open studio time is on top of the included classes, at every level. Clay discounts run from nothing on Green Level up to $6 off each bag on Black Level.
The part we would rather you read now than find out later
There are no drop-in classes and no single sessions. Membership renews on the 25th of each month and canceling has to happen before the 24th. Fired work has to be collected within two weeks of the kiln being unloaded. And the cheapest level shows you a real fraction of what a busy month here looks like.
If that list makes membership the wrong shape for you, it is better to know in the first minute than in the fourth week.

There is no pottery studio in Utah City and none is announced. Provo is where the real choice is, ten minutes south.

Provo, on Edgewood Drive. Painting pre-made bisque pieces, with open studio, reservations, parties and kids events. No wheel and no clay of your own, but it is the easiest thing on this list to do on a whim with a five year old.
For a first try, Throw Art Studio in Provo is ten minutes away and about thirty dollars. Half an hour north for a monthly membership only makes sense once you already know you want the room.

Is Utah City its own city?

Do you take beginners?
Most people who join have never touched a wheel. In a neighborhood where almost everyone moved in during the last eighteen months, starting something from zero is the local condition rather than the exception.
What are the class times?
Instructed classes Monday through Thursday evenings plus Monday daytime. Friday evening and both weekend mornings are open studio. All of it runs now, with nothing phased in later.
What happens if you join this week
You pick a level, sign the waiver, and turn up to your first class. Somebody shows you where everything is, you get a shelf, and you put your hands in clay the same night. Most people who come from Utah City and join here have never touched a wheel.
