A saggar is a small kiln inside the kiln, and you decide what the weather is in it.
Wrap a bisque pot in foil with sawdust, salt and copper, seal it, fire it low, and open it onto a surface no glaze can make. This page is the whole method: what a saggar actually is, what every material in it does, how to pack one, what temperature to stop at, and every way it comes out disappointing.

The whole idea
Trap smoke and vapor against a bare pot, and let them stain it.
The one thing that decides everything
Is the surface open enough to take a stain? Carbon and metal vapor only mark porous, unglazed, polished clay. Glaze it, or bisque it too hot, and nothing on this page can reach it. Every other decision here is downstream of that.
A saggar is a sealed container that goes inside the kiln. You pack it with a bisque pot and a handful of things that burn or fume, and the pot gets colored by whatever is closest to it. Wherever a material touched, you get a mark. Wherever it did not, you get pale clay.
Sawdust makes the blacks and greys. Copper makes the reds and turquoise. Salt makes both of those sharper. Almost everything in the long version is a variation on those three.
What you need: a smooth, low-bisqued pot, heavy duty aluminum foil, sawdust, table salt, copper carbonate, gloves, a respirator, and a kiln outdoors that you can hold at about 1350 degrees F.

The method
The foil saggar, in seven moves
Foil is the method to start with. It is cheap, it is one pot per parcel, and it puts the materials closer to the clay than anything else will.

Make it smooth, round and even
Compress the surface with a rib, sand it at leather hard and again at bone dry. No sharp corners, no handles, even wall thickness. Every tool mark you leave will show up in the finish, and every sharp corner is a place to crack.

Terra sigillata, then buff
Two or three thin coats on bone-dry clay, buffing each one with a soft cloth as it goes matte. This is optional and it is also the difference between crisp marks and a soft haze.

Bisque low
Cone 08 to cone 06 is the window. The lower you bisque, the more open the clay stays and the more color it will take. A standard studio bisque works, it just gives you a quieter result.

Lay out the foil and the materials
Tear a sheet of heavy duty foil big enough to wrap the pot with room to spare, and crinkle it. Lay down a thin bed of sawdust, then sprinkle salt and copper carbonate where you want color. Wear gloves from here on: fingerprints are permanent.

Wrap it, sealed but not shrink-wrapped
Set the pot in, add anything you want touching it, and fold the foil closed with a small air gap around the piece. Fold every seam twice. Two or three layers. Loose gives you haze, tight gives you hard edges.

Fire slow and low, then hold
Outdoors or under a real vent, never in a shared studio kiln. Climb slowly to roughly 1300 to 1400 degrees F, hold twenty to thirty minutes, then let it cool on its own. Foil starts falling apart past about 1400, which makes it your thermometer.

Cool fully, unwrap, wipe, wax
Wait until it is cold. Unwrap over paper, outdoors. Wipe with a soft dry cloth and water only. Do not scrub, because the color is in the top fraction of a millimeter. Seal it with a microcrystalline wax when it is dry.
It is decorative, and that is not a technicality
A saggar fired pot is unglazed, low fired and porous, and its surface is carbon and salts. It does not hold water, it is not food safe, and it does not go in a dishwasher or a microwave. Dry goods and looking at it.

Why this page reads and plays
Film shows you the hands. Reading is what you still have three weeks later.
Read a section, watch somebody do it, then go and do it. Or watch first and read after. Both work. Doing only one of the two is how people end up standing over a cold kiln holding a grey pot with no idea which of the eleven things they changed was the one that mattered.
Some of this genuinely cannot be written down. How much sawdust actually looks like too much sawdust. How loosely a foil parcel wants to close. What the foil looks like at the moment it has stopped being shiny, which is the cue that tells you to stop the firing. You have to watch a person do those, and film is unbeatable at exactly that. It is why there are seven videos on this page.
But film is a miserable reference. You cannot skim it. You cannot jump to the line about how hot the salt has to get before it does anything. You cannot scrub a timeline with gloves on, and you cannot search it a month later when you have forgotten whether the copper goes on the pot or in the bed. Text holds still. You set the pace, you re-read the one sentence you needed, and setting your own pace turns out to be most of what makes a thing stay in your head.
So this page is deliberately both, and it is built to be held up on a phone next to a packing table. The lists are short on purpose. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play, which also means it opens fast on studio wifi, and there is a print button at the top if you would rather have paper that does not mind dirty hands.
None of these videos are ours. Every one is somebody else's work, credited by name and channel, and pressing play sends the view to their channel where it belongs.
What a saggar actually is
It was invented to keep the fire out. We use it to keep the fire in.
For most of its history a saggar was a plain fireclay box, and its entire job was protection. Wood and coal kilns throw ash, sparks and grit, so potters stacked their good ware inside sealed containers to keep the atmosphere away from it. The word is thought to be a worn-down version of safeguard.
Then somebody turned it inside out. If a sealed box can keep an atmosphere away from a pot, the same box can hold a chosen atmosphere hard against one. That flip is the whole technique, and everything below is a consequence of it.
- The foil. Two or three layers of heavy duty aluminum, crinkled and folded closed at every seam. It is the wall of the private atmosphere, and it is also the thermometer: it starts breaking down not far above 1400 degrees F.
- The air gap. A little room between pot and foil, so vapor can travel and settle. Shrink-wrap the parcel and the marks turn hard-edged. Leave it loose and they soften into blushes.
- The combustible bed. Sawdust, shavings, dry leaves. This is the fuel that eats the oxygen and makes the greys and blacks. It is also the single easiest thing to overdo.
- The colorants. Salt and copper carbonate, sitting in the bed and sprinkled on the pot. These do nothing until they get hot enough to fume, which is why the top temperature matters more than the schedule.
- Anything in direct contact. Copper wire, salt-soaked string, horsehair, a strand of seaweed. Contact makes a hard line exactly where the material lay. This is your drawing tool.
- The terra sigillata. A polished skin of ultra-fine clay. Optional, and it is the difference between a sharp mark and a soft one, because a closed surface holds the color on top instead of letting it sink.
- The clay body. Porous, unglazed, low bisqued. If this is vitrified or glazed, there is nowhere for any of the above to go and the pot comes out clean.
You are not decorating a pot. You are packing a chamber.
This is the mental flip that makes saggar work click, and it changes what you spend your time on. Nothing you brush on is the finish. The finish is made by what burns and what fumes in the two inches around the piece, so the real craft is in the packing: what goes where, how close, and how much.

Three kinds of saggar
Same idea, three completely different jobs
People say saggar firing and mean at least three things. They share a container and share nothing else: different temperatures, different materials, and different reasons for doing it at all. Work out which one you are being shown before you copy anybody's numbers.
1. The foil saggar
One pot, wrapped in heavy duty aluminum with its own materials. Low fired, roughly 1300 to 1400 degrees F, because the foil gives out above that. Cheapest to try, fastest to learn from, and it puts materials closer to the clay than anything else.
Start here. One parcel is one experiment, so five parcels in one firing is five experiments, and that is how you learn this quickly.
2. The container saggar
A real box: fireclay, a bisqued bowl with a plate on top, a steel can, even a paper sack coated in slip. Holds more, survives higher temperatures than foil, and can be fired repeatedly. Soluble salt work lives up here, often 1500 to 1750 degrees F.
The trade. More room means the materials sit further away, so the marks are hazier and less like drawing.
3. The reduction saggar
A different animal entirely. A sealed clay box with charcoal in it, fired to full stoneware temperature in an electric kiln, so that a glazed pot inside gets a reduction atmosphere it could never get otherwise. This is about glaze chemistry, not smoke on bare clay.
Not what this page is about, but worth knowing it exists, because searching for saggar firing will hand it to you mixed in with the rest.

Purists will tell you saggar firing is not raku, and they are right. Raku means pulling a glowing pot out of the kiln and reducing it in the open air. A saggar never leaves the kiln and there is no dramatic pull. It gets grouped with raku because it uses the same kilns, the same tools and the same afternoon, and we are going to keep grouping it too, because the person holding the gloves does not care much about taxonomy.
Before any of this
The pot decides how good the firing can be
More saggar disappointments are built at the wheel and in the bisque kiln than in the packing. Four things about the pot set the ceiling on the result, and none of them can be fixed later.
The form
Round, closed and even. No handles, no lids, no sharp corners, no thin rims. The piece goes up and down through a big temperature range fast, and every corner is a stress point. Wide, generous curves also give the vapor somewhere to pool and blush, which is where the best passages come from.
The surface
As smooth as you are willing to make it. Compress with a rubber rib while throwing, take the trimming marks off, sand at leather hard, then sand again at bone dry with a fine pad. Carbon and salt settle into every scratch and every wobble, which flatters nothing. This is unglamorous work and it is most of the difference between good and great.
The clay body
You want two things that fight each other: a fine, smooth body that polishes well, and a grogged, open body that survives the temperature swing. Most people land on a mid-range body with some grog and accept a slightly less mirror-like polish. Light bodies show color the most. A dark body mutes everything and gives you a tonal piece instead of a colored one.
The bisque
Low. Cone 08 to cone 06 is the usual window, and the reason is porosity: the hotter you bisque, the tighter the clay closes up and the less carbon and vapor it can absorb. A pot bisqued high enough will simply refuse to take color, and there is no fixing it afterwards.
The studio bisque is a little tight for this, and that is worth knowing up front
The Clay Hole bisques at cone 05, which is the standard for getting work ready to glaze and is at the tight end of the saggar window. Work bisqued here will still take color, it will just be quieter and softer than what you see from people running a dedicated cone 08 bisque for this purpose. If a firing comes out paler than the videos led you to expect, this is the first thing to look at, and it is not something you did wrong at the packing table.
Glazed pots are out, and so are cone 5½ pots
A pot that has already been through a glaze firing is vitrified. It is dense, it is closed, and its surface is glass. Nothing in a saggar can mark it, and it is under far more thermal stress than a bisque piece. Saggar work starts from low bisqueware, always.
Terra sigillata and burnishing
A polished skin does not add color. It decides how sharp the color lands.
Skip it on your first firing
Plain sanded bisque takes saggar color perfectly well, just softer and hazier. Learning the packing and the temperature first, and adding the polished surface once those are steady, is a faster route than trying to learn three things in one afternoon.
Terra sigillata is clay separated down to its very finest particles and suspended in water. Brushed thin onto bone-dry clay and buffed as it goes matte, those particles lie flat and lock together into a surface with a low sheen. It is not a glaze and it does not melt. It is just clay, arranged tidily.
That tidiness is what changes the firing. On an open, unpolished surface, carbon and salts sink in and diffuse, and every mark spreads a little into its neighbors. On a closed, polished surface they sit near the top, so a line of copper wire reads as a line rather than as a smudge. That is the entire reason people bother.
How it goes on: two to four thin coats on bone-dry work, letting each one lose its wet shine before the next. Buff each coat with a soft lint-free cloth, a chamois or the smooth side of a plastic bag while it still looks slightly damp. A banding wheel makes the coats even and is worth the setup. Then bisque low as usual.
Burnishing with a stone is the older route: rub the leather-hard clay with a smooth pebble or the back of a spoon until it shines. It gives a deeper polish than sigillata and it costs a great deal more time, and it only works on smooth un-grogged clay. Most people use sigillata because it can be done on bone-dry work in a fraction of the time.
One thing that catches people out: both surfaces are fragile before firing, and both take fingerprints permanently. Handle the pot from the inside or with clean cotton gloves from the moment you start polishing.

What every material does
Twelve things worth putting in a saggar
Everything in the list below is doing one of three jobs: burning to make carbon, fuming to make color, or physically lying against the pot to make a line. Once you can name which job a material is doing, you can predict roughly what it will give you, and you can stop copying recipes.

Things that never go in a saggar
Treated or painted wood, plywood, particle board, anything glued or varnished, plastic of any kind, foam, rubber, printed glossy paper, and any container that held a solvent or a pesticide. These do not make interesting colors. They make fumes that are genuinely dangerous to be near, and no result is worth it. And never combine ferric chloride with metals or metal oxides in the same parcel.

Packing and wrapping
Eight moves at the packing table
This is the part that is actually the craft. Two people can pack the same materials at the same temperature and get completely different pots, and the difference is entirely in placement and quantity.

Cover the table and put the gloves on
Plastic sheeting or a stack of newspaper, because powders travel. Gloves from here to the end. A bisqued, polished pot takes an oil fingerprint and holds onto it through the whole firing, and there is no way to remove one afterwards.

Clean the pot
Blow the dust off and wipe it with a barely damp sponge, then let it dry. Bisque dust sits between the surface and everything you are about to put on it, and it shows up as blotchy patches where nothing happened.

Tear the foil bigger than you think, and crinkle it
Heavy duty aluminum, large enough to wrap the piece with several inches spare on every side. Scrunch the sheet loosely and open it back out. Those creases give the vapor channels to travel along and are a real part of the pattern.

Tack the light powders down
A light mist of cheap hairspray on the foil, left a minute to go sticky, stops fine powders sliding to the bottom of the parcel while you wrap. It sounds like a bodge and it is the single most useful trick on this page.

Bed first, colorants second, contact pieces last
A thin bed of sawdust, then a sprinkle of salt and a pinch of copper, then the pot, then anything you want touching it: wire, seaweed, twine, shells. Build it in that order and you always know what is against the clay and what is not.

Decide loose or tight, on purpose
Close the foil with a small air gap around the piece for soft blushes, or press it against the surface for hard edges. Both are correct. Picking one deliberately rather than discovering it afterwards is what turns a firing into information.

Seal every seam, two or three layers
Fold each seam over twice, the way you would close a sandwich. The parcel does not need to be airtight and it does need to be closed: a hole big enough to see through will vent the atmosphere you just built and give you a pale pot with a scorched patch.

Photograph it and write it down
You cannot see through foil, and in a week you will not remember which parcel had the seaweed. A phone photo of the open parcel plus three lines in a notebook is worth more than the next four firings without it.
Contact makes a line. Distance makes a cloud.
If you remember one sentence from this band, make it that one. Everything you are choosing at the table is really a choice about how close a material sits to the clay, and every disappointment about a mark being too vague or too harsh traces back to that distance.

The firing
Low, slow, and stopped at the right moment
Saggar firing is not about maturing clay, so temperature is not doing what it does in a normal firing. It has exactly two jobs here: get the combustibles burning, and get the salts and metals hot enough to fume. Undershoot and nothing fumes. Overshoot and the foil falls apart.
The shape of a foil saggar firing
- Load with space around every parcel, so heat can get all the way around each one.
- Climb slowly through the first stretch, up to around 500 degrees F, and hold there briefly. Any water still in a pot turns to steam here, and steam is what cracks pieces.
- Climb steadily to roughly 1300 to 1400 degrees F. This is the working range for foil.
- Hold twenty to thirty minutes at the top. This is where the salt and copper actually do their work, and cutting it short is the most common reason a firing comes out grey.
- Watch the foil rather than only the numbers. When it has gone dull and lost its shine, you are there.
- Shut it down and let it cool on its own, all the way to cold. No crash cooling, no opening early, no water anywhere near it.
Ventilation is the real hazard, not the heat
A saggar firing is a small chemical process with a lid on it, and what comes off it is smoke, salt vapor and metal fume. This belongs outdoors, or under a kiln vent that genuinely works, with a vapor-rated respirator and eye protection on anybody standing near it. It is also why saggar work does not go into shared studio kilns: salt and copper vapor attack elements and brickwork, and the damage lands on everybody else's firings rather than yours.
The number nobody can give you
Every source quotes a slightly different temperature, and they are all telling the truth about their own kiln, their own foil and their own materials. Treat the range here as a starting point, fire the same packing at two different top temperatures, and let your own two pots settle the argument. Three firings of your own notes will beat any number on the internet.
Opening it and keeping it
The color is a few microns thick, and you can scrub it off in about four seconds.
Water and a soft cloth. Nothing else.
No soap, no scouring pad, no bar keeper's friend, no wire brush. People lose beautiful pots at the kitchen sink more often than they lose them in the kiln, and it is always for the same reason: the piece came out sooty, they assumed the soot was dirt, and they cleaned it off along with the artwork.
Let it go completely cold first. Foil holds heat, it is sharp when it tears, and a warm pot going into cool air is still a thermal shock risk. There is nothing to be gained by opening early except a cracked piece and a burned hand.
Unwrap over paper, outdoors. There will be ash, unburnt material and loose salt in there, and none of it is something to shake out over a work table. Peel the foil rather than pulling it, because a torn edge dragged across the surface leaves a scratch you will see forever.
Wipe, do not wash. Start with a dry soft cloth to lift the loose ash, and look at the piece before you decide it needs anything more. If it does, a barely damp cloth and light pressure. What looks like grime on the surface is very often the deepest color on the pot.
Then seal it, because an unsealed saggar surface dulls with handling and slowly loses its edge to light and skin oil. A microcrystalline wax buffed on thin is the usual answer: it deepens the color, evens out the sheen and protects the carbon. An acrylic spray sealer works too and gives a shinier, less natural look.
And know what you have made. Unglazed, low fired, porous, with a surface of carbon and salts. It will not hold water, it is not food safe, and it does not belong in a dishwasher or a microwave. This is decorative work and there is no version of it that is not.

- Fold every seam twice. Two or three layers of foil.
- Photograph the open parcel. Write down what went in it.
At the kiln
- Outdoors or a real vent. Respirator and eye protection on.
- Load with space around every parcel.
- Slow to about 500 degrees F, brief hold, then climb.
- Roughly 1300 to 1400 degrees F. Hold twenty to thirty minutes.
- Foil goes dull and loses its shine. That is your cue.
- Cool all the way down on its own. No peeking, no water.
After
- Cold before you open it. Unwrap over paper, outdoors, peeling rather than pulling. Dry cloth first, damp cloth only if it needs it, then wax it when it is dry.
- Round, even, smooth forms. Sand at leather hard and again bone dry.
- Terra sigillata if you want sharp marks. Then bisque low.
- Gloves on. Dust the pot off and wipe it. Cover the table.
- Crinkled heavy duty foil, light mist of hairspray to hold powders.
- Thin bed of sawdust, sprinkle of salt, pinch of copper carbonate.
- Pot in, then wire or seaweed directly against the surface.
- Close with a small air gap, fold every seam twice, two or three layers.
- Outdoors. Slow to 500, then 1300 to 1400 degrees F, hold twenty minutes.
- Cool fully. Unwrap over paper. Dry cloth, no scrubbing, then wax it.
When it goes wrong
Nine ways this goes wrong, and what caused each one
The three that get everybody first
Saggar work has a reputation for being unpredictable, and it half deserves it. What is genuinely random is where a mark lands. What is not random at all is whether you got any marks, and almost every bad firing traces back to one specific thing you can point at.

The whole pot came out black
Too much combustible, almost always. A packed nest of sawdust burns hard enough to carbon the entire surface and drown every colorant in the parcel. A tight wrap makes it worse by holding the smoke right against the clay. Next time: a thin bed rather than a nest, and a little more air in the parcel.
Almost nothing happened
A pale, faintly smudged pot means the salts and metals never got hot enough to fume, or the hold at the top was too short for them to finish. The other cause is a bisque that was too high, so the clay had nowhere to absorb anything. Next time: same packing, hotter top, longer hold.
The color washed off in the sink
It did not fail. You removed it. Saggar color lives in the top fraction of a millimeter and a scouring pad takes it straight off, along with the ash it was hiding under. Next time: dry cloth only, look hard before you decide anything needs cleaning, and seal it with wax as soon as it is dry.
The pot cracked
Thermal shock. Uneven walls, a sharp corner, a handle, a piece that was not fully dry, or too fast a climb through the low end. A saggar firing is gentler than raku but it is still a fast trip through the range where trapped water turns to steam. Next time: even walls, rounder form, slow to 500 degrees F with a hold.
The foil disintegrated
You went past what aluminum can take, which is not far above 1400 degrees F. The parcel opened mid-firing, the atmosphere vented, and you got a scorched patch instead of a pattern. Next time: lower top temperature, or move to a container saggar if you genuinely need the extra heat.
Grey and muddy where you wanted color
Carbon without fuming. The sawdust did its job and the salt and copper did not, which means either the temperature or the hold. This one is easy to confirm: fire two identical parcels, one at your usual top and one thirty degrees higher, and the answer will be sitting in front of you.
Fingerprints baked into the surface
Bare hands on polished bisque at some point between sanding and wrapping. Skin oil resists the smoke, so a print shows up as a pale ghost of a thumb. There is no fixing it after the firing. Next time: gloves from the moment the sigillata goes on.
Marks in all the wrong places
You cannot see through foil, and a parcel gets tipped, carried and loaded before it fires. Loose material slides to the bottom on the way to the kiln. Next time: tack the powders down with hairspray, keep the parcel level, and photograph it open so you can compare what you packed against what you got.
It looked incredible and then went flat
An unsealed saggar surface dulls. Handling it takes carbon off, skin oil blotches it, and light slowly softens the contrast. This is not a firing fault, it is a finishing one. Next time: wax it within a day or two of unwrapping and buff it back up occasionally.
Bring more pots than you want to keep
Nobody gets a full rack of good work out of an early saggar session, and people who have been doing it for years still lose pieces to a wrapped parcel that did nothing. Make peace with that before the day, bring several small pieces rather than one you care about, and take notes on every single one: bed, colorants, contact materials, wrap tightness, top temperature, hold. Four firings of notes will teach you more than this whole page.
Saggar firing at The Clay Hole
This is workshop work, outdoors, and not something that goes in the studio kilns.
Everything arrives packed
Pots come to a firing already bisqued, and parcels get built at a table outdoors on the day. There is no do-over out there. Whatever is in your foil when it goes in the kiln is what comes back out.
Our kilns are electric and they fire glaze to cone 5½, which is cone 5 with a twelve minute hold. Saggar work is the opposite end of everything: less than half that temperature, a sealed parcel full of salt and copper, and a lot of smoke. Salt and metal vapor are hard on elements and brickwork, and in a shared studio that damage lands on everybody else's firings rather than on yours, which is why this lives outdoors with the raku equipment rather than in the kiln room on Pony Express Road.
So it runs the way our other alternative firings run: as workshops, with a safety meeting in person before anything is lit, a fresh waiver every time, and everybody staying through cleanup. Saggar sits alongside the rest of the alternative firing family, and the differences are worth knowing before you pick one. Our raku guide is the overview of all of them. Naked raku builds a shell and takes it off. Horsehair and feather draws on a glowing pot after it leaves the kiln. Saggar is the one where nothing is pulled and nothing is drawn: you build the conditions, close the lid, and find out later.
The clay is the easy part. B-Mix with Grog is on the shelf and takes the temperature swing well while still smoothing up reasonably. Berlin Gray is a dark body, which changes the result completely: your pale areas are not pale, so the piece reads as tone rather than as color. Both are fine choices and they are not the same project.
Questions we actually get
The ones that come up every time
What is the difference between saggar firing and pit firing?
Scale and control. In a pit fire the whole pit is the container, everything shares one atmosphere, and where a pot sits in the pile decides most of the result. A saggar shrinks that pit down to a parcel around a single piece, so you choose exactly what is next to the clay. Saggar firing is pit firing with all the variables pulled in close enough to aim.
Do I have to use terra sigillata?
No. Plain, well-sanded bisque takes color perfectly well. Sigillata is the difference between a crisp mark and a soft one, not the difference between working and not working. If your first firing is about learning packing and temperature, leave it out and add it once those are steady.
Can I saggar fire a pot that already has glaze on it?
No. Glaze is glass, and nothing in a saggar sticks to glass. The same goes for anything that has already been through a cone 5½ glaze firing, glazed or not, because a vitrified pot is closed and there is nowhere for carbon or vapor to go. Saggar work starts from low bisqueware every time.
Can I do this in my own electric kiln at home?
Technically yes, and you should understand what you are trading. Salt and metal vapor shorten element life and attack brickwork, and the fumes need real ventilation rather than an open window. People who do this regularly in an electric kiln generally keep an older kiln for it and accept that it is being spent on pots. Doing it in the only kiln you own is a decision, not a detail.
Is a saggar fired pot food safe?
No, and not in a borderline way. It is unglazed, low fired and porous, its surface is carbon and metal salts, and some of the materials people use are things you would not want near food at all. It does not hold water, it does not go in a dishwasher or a microwave, and it is not for eating or drinking out of. Dry goods and decoration.
What temperature exactly?
For foil, roughly 1300 to 1400 degrees F with a twenty to thirty minute hold. The reason nobody will give you a single number is that the honest answer depends on your kiln, your foil and your materials, and everybody quoting a precise figure is quoting theirs. Fire the same packing at two temperatures thirty degrees apart and you will have your own number by the end of the day.
Do I need ferric chloride to get good results?
No. A great deal of the most striking work uses it, and you can get genuinely beautiful pots from sawdust, salt, copper carbonate and a piece of seaweed. It is an acid, it needs full protective gear and it must never share a parcel with metals or metal oxides. Learn the process without it and decide later whether you want that step in your life.
How many pots should I bring to a firing?
More than you want to keep, and smaller than you think. Each parcel is one experiment, so bringing five small pieces teaches you five times as much as bringing one you are attached to. Check the details of the workshop you are registered for, because there are limits on how much each person can bring.
