Okay, one final weird and tough dynamic that I never expected when I opened a million-dollar pottery studio…
It never crossed my mind that I would have a constant stream of well-intentioned followers dropping by the studio unexpectedly from all over the country, expecting the red carpet and an immediate full studio tour as well as a full get-to-know-each-other conversation.
Friends, I am really thankful I’ve built something you would love to come and see.
I’m really thankful you care enough to want to stop by.
I’m really thankful that you’d love to meet and shoot the shit.
That is the potter’s spirit, after all.
Ugh.
This is a hard video to make because I don’t want to come off as unappreciative or bitter, I’m really not. I get it.
But I’ve gotta be real with y’all before this keeps affecting my ability to be successful here…
Reality is, I’m working 80-120 hour weeks getting this thing going.
I’m still deep in the red and I’m paying my staff a lot of money to work on very specific tasks every minute that they’re here.
I’m usually neck-deep outside of class time working on admin tasks, creating social media, or managing various aspects of the business.
And when I or my staff get constantly derailed, or our flow is completely interrupted, it can be very hard to jump back into flow state and finish what we were doing.
This problem is greatly affecting my business. It is affecting my team’s morale. It’s affecting a lot of other unexpected things, too.
And so, there’s no easy way to say this, but I’ve gotta say it anyway…
The Clay Hole is not a tourist attraction. And just because you know where to find me doesn’t mean there’s an open invitation to do so.
The truth is, we don’t have time to give tours for everyone passing through.
I feel like such a douche saying it, but I would actually really appreciate if all the well-intentioned, awesome humans who just wanna meet and see the place, just… Wouldn’t?
Is that okay to ask?
There’s a virtual tour on our website. It shows most everything here! I’d love if you’d look through the place.
I’ll also keep posting. Let’s stay tight on social media and only on social media.
Deal?
Don’t resent me too much for that? I know a lot of you have planned swinging by here on your road trips and pitstops in Utah.
I wish I could hire someone who does nothing but meet and greet and give tours. I wish I could duplicate myself so that I could get to know each and every one of you who wants to stop by. But I just… Can’t.
Thanks for having my back with this.
And, hey. If you’re here in Utah, and you’re interested in joining The Clay Hole, then we definitely would love to have you come be part of this. Head to the link in my bio, signing up online is super easy and you can get started right away!
