Four good ways to waste five minutes

Wreck the glaze wall. Leave an offering for Icarus, God of Kilns. Pull your daily card. Scream it into the void. Four small pages made for our members and open to anyone, with nothing to sign up for.

All four

One for every kind of studio day

Two of them destroy things on purpose, one keeps a careful record and one hands you something kind. Each one opens in a new tab.

Destroy the Glaze Wall

Our real glaze wall, and a long list of things that want it gone.

Pick an icon under the photo, anything from Alien abduction to Zombies, and hold it for about a second and a half. Then the wall gets what is coming to it. More than a hundred to choose from, sorted A to Z, with more on the way.

Make an Offering to Icarus, God of Kilns

Whether your pot comes back in one piece is, broadly speaking, his call.

Tell him who approaches and pick a blessing, from guarding you against cracks to delivering you from air bubbles. Then give up something worth giving: a secret, a kind word about somebody else or a boast about yourself. He makes no promises.

Pull Your Daily Card

The ritual that starts every class here, now on the website too.

Tell the cards what to call you, answer two little questions about how today is sitting with you, and one card finds you. Three more wait face down underneath, the same three for everyone until midnight. Keep coming back until all 100 have found you.

Scream It Into the Void

For the wall that folded, the piece that cracked in the bisque or the drive over.

Type the part you have been being polite about, in all caps if it helps. Pick how it goes (a meteor, a black hole, the sun, a shredder and more) and hold the button down for about a second. Escape wipes the box if somebody walks up.

Good to know

What each one keeps, and where they live

Nothing to sign up for

All four open for anyone, with no login and no cost. Icarus and the cards ask what to call you, and a nickname works for both.

Icarus keeps every offering

Each one is written down and kept, and the owner of The Clay Hole can read it. Give Icarus a name that is not your own if you want a secret to stay yours. He answers to those too.

The void keeps nothing

Nothing typed into the void is saved or sent, and nobody reads it but you. Press Escape and the box wipes clean.

Your cards stay in your browser

Your collection saves itself in the browser you use. If you browse privately or clear your history, the card page has a save and reload option for exactly that.

A card in your inbox

The card page can also email you one card a day, in order, until all 100 have found you.

The real ones live in Draper

The glaze wall in the videos stands in our studio, Icarus hangs on a studio wall, and a real card waits at every seat in class.

Questions

Before you ask

Do I need to be a member?

No. All four open for anyone, with no login and no cost. Members get the in-person versions too: the real glaze wall, Icarus on the studio wall and a card at every seat in class.

Where do I find these again?

In the menu at the top of every page. Open Quickies, then Extra fun, and all four are there.

Does Icarus really read my offering?

Icarus is a carved wooden mask, so no. The owner of The Clay Hole can, because every offering is written down and kept. Use a name that is not your own if you would rather stay anonymous.

Is what I type into the void really gone?

Yes. It is not saved, it is not sent, and nobody reads it but you.

Is the glaze wall okay?

Yes. The wrecking happens on screen only. The real wall is still standing in our Draper studio.

How many daily cards are there?

100 can find you on the website, one a day. The three face-down cards are the same for everyone and stay out of your collection. The 101st card only ever happens in person.

The real versions

The wall, the shrine and the cards are all in our Draper studio

Along with the wheels, the kilns and a room full of people making things. Membership is how a seat at the table becomes yours. Come make something.
