Pottery Classes That Create Belonging for Utah Transplants
If you've moved to Utah and felt like you just don't quite fit in, you're not alone. Many transplants arrive in this beautiful state only to find it’s hard to break into existing social circles—especially if you’re not connected through religious or family networks.
At The Clay Hole in Draper, we offer more than just pottery classes. We offer belonging. We’ve become a haven for newcomers—people who want something real, creative, and welcoming to ground themselves in their new home.
Finding Your People Starts with Showing Up
A 2023 Gallup report showed that Utah ranks among the top states for population growth—but also ranks high in residents reporting difficulty making new friends post-move. Why? Because most adults don’t get repeated time with new people unless they intentionally seek it.
That’s where pottery shines. Our weekly classes offer transplants a low-pressure, creative setting where friendships grow naturally—through clay, repetition, and shared space.
Why Pottery Works So Well for Transplants
- No religion, no cliques—just kindness and creativity
- Side-by-side structure means easy, organic connection
- Weekly classes create consistency and trust
- You don’t have to “put yourself out there”—you just show up
You don’t need to be an extrovert. You don’t need to know anyone. You just need a desire to belong—and a willingness to get your hands in the clay.

FAQ
I’m new to Utah and don’t know anyone. Is that normal?
Totally. Many of our members are in the same boat. We’ve designed this space specifically for adults looking to connect in real, low-pressure ways.
Is clay or firing included?
Nope—those are billed separately, so you only pay for what you use. It’s fair and flexible.
