From Acquaintance to Actual Friend – Pottery Makes It Happen
How many people in your life do you say hi to but never really know? The neighbor you wave to. The coworker you talk about the weather with. The person at your gym or church or book club who never quite becomes more than an acquaintance.
At The Clay Hole, we see that change every week. People who came in as strangers sit side by side, slowly open up, and become real, lifelong friends—because pottery gives them the time and space to get there.
The Secret Is Time—Lots of It
A University of Kansas study found that it takes about 90 hours of shared time to go from acquaintance to friend—and more than 200 hours to build real closeness.
That kind of connection doesn’t happen over coffee or through small talk. It happens when you show up together week after week, working with your hands, cheering each other on, and quietly building trust in a safe, shared space.

FAQ
I’m not super social—will I still make friends?
Yes. The beauty of pottery is that you don’t need to talk constantly to connect. You just keep showing up. Over time, bonds form naturally.
Is clay or firing included in the membership?
No—those are paid separately so you only cover what you use. It keeps things simple and cost-effective.
