Clay Hole Punch Passes

The full ins and outs of the program (no pun intended)...

No monthly membership. Punch Passes were made for those Clay Hole members who know they can't always commit to a full membership schedule.

With Punch Passes, you pre-purchase x4, x8, x12, or x20 classes at a time, which you are free to use whenever you like.

Learn about Green, Yellow, & Purple Membership levels here

In a nutshell, you can always start with our basic level membership (green), where you bring your own tools and get basic access.

From there, with yellow or purple level, you get more tools, more glazes, more equipment, and better discounts with every jump in membership! We highly suggest going with at least yellow level so that you can have the tools and glazes that come with higher levels.

There is no access to black level membership with Punch Passes. If you wish to be a black level member, you must have a regular monthly membership.

Here is a look at each of the four membership levels and the additional value you'll get with each:

1Some extra things you need to know (the Punch Pass fine print)

  • Every new member must purchase their Punch Pass under their own name, email, and phone number. If you'd like to purchase a Punch Pass as a gift, please grab a gift certificate for them instead of signing them up under your info. We cannot make exceptions to this rule.
  • Clay is available starting at $28 for a 25 lb bag (before membership discounts)
  • Kiln firings are priced at $0.05 per cubic inch (minimum $4.80)
  • All members will be required to sign the online waiver before they can participate at The Clay Hole.
  • Do not lose this card. New cards cannot be issued should you lose your punch pass (for several reasons) - No exceptions
  • You must bring this card and have it punched to attend any class or open studio. Present it to management and get it punched upon arrival. No exceptions. If you forget your card, you’ll need to go home and get it before you may attend class.
  • Failure to get your card punched while attending will result in this entire punch card becoming void and no refund will be issued.
  • No outside pottery, projects, or clay allowed. Must complete all work in studio. This is to prevent production potters from abusing our system to get access to our $120,000 commercial glaze collection.
  • Damaged cards can be replaced by our membership manager.
  • You may store your projects on designated Punch Pass shelves while working on them. Please note all posted shelf deadlines to avoid your pieces being marked abandoned and thrown out.
  • You may use your punch pass with up to three guests at a time, so long as you are attending class with your guests. Each guest will count as one punch. All guests must sign the studio waiver before attending. Each guest may attend only one class via this punch card.
  • Punch passes cannot ever be downgraded to lower membership levels.
  • Should you wish to upgrade to a higher membership level, you will need to purchase a brand new punch pass at the higher level (with the same number of punches or more), then bring this card to the membership manager for a full refund of the unused punches/classes.
  • Sorry, no refunds should you wish to switch to a normal monthly membership. You can, however, gift your remaining punch passes to a partner or friend who has never been a member of The Clay Hole. Talk to our membership manager if you wish to do so. This card may not be sold or transferred for any other reason.
  • This card & any unused classes expire from date of purchase. No refunds for unused classes/punches, so be sure to use your punches!
  • Expiration dates are as follows: 4 classes (3 months), 8 classes (5 months), 12 classes (8 months), 20 classes (14 months)
  • Unlike with our monthly memberships, Punch Passes do not automatically renew. You will need to purchase a new one or sign-up for membership once you run out of punches.
  • There are no refunds on Punch Passes for any reason at any time except as stated above for membership level upgrades.
  • We reserve the right to cancel any membership at any time should our studio rules not be kept or problems arise. Should your membership be canceled for conduct or rule breaking, there are no refunds for unused punches, and all items/materials on the community shelves will be forfeit.

We have alternative membership options for couples!

Pottery hobbies are far from free, and that goes double when two of you find a love for it!

Obviously you can both have your own standard memberships. Or, did you know? We offer two alternative pottery memberships, just for couples. Our goal with these is to reduce your monthly Clay Hole expenses (shared shelf pass) or help you if you need to alternate who comes to class (shared membership pass).

By signing up for membership via a Punch Pass, you agree to all terms and conditions above and acknowledge that you understand the information found on the FAQs page, and as seen in the FAQs section below...

Punch Pass FAQs:

These are the most common questions and answers about our Punch Pass program

How do I get my Punch Pass after I've ordered it?

The first time you come to The Clay Hole after purchasing your Punch Pass, come talk to a member of management. We will have your Punch Pass ready for you before you ever show up.

We do ask that you avoid coming for the first time on Clayraoke & Trivia night so that we can give you proper attention your first time in.

Do Punch Passes expire?

Yes, all Punch Passes expire. The Clay Hole gives ample time to enjoy your pass at your leisure. Of course, the more passes you purchase, the longer you will have to use them.

EXPIRATION DATES:

x4 Class Pass: 3 months from date of purchase

x8 Class Pass: 5 months from date of purchase

x12 Class Pass: 8 months from date of purchase

x20 Class Pass: 14 months from date of purchase

If you'd rather have classes that never expire, consider signing-up for our standard monthly membership. Your unused classes never expire so long as you're a member with us. Learn more about those here.

Do Punch Passes cost more per class than a standard membership?

Yes. All Punch Passes cost more on a per class basis.

The best deal you will find per class is to join The Clay Hole as a monthly member. Some people, however, have a hard time committing to come to all the classes offered on the monthly membership, and so we offer these Punch Passes as a way for those with busy schedules to still be part of what we do here. In other words, you're paying a bit more for a lot more freedom in your membership!

What are the upsides/downsides of Punch Passes vs regular membership?

Upside #1: Flexibility. Use all your punches close together, or spread them out to fit your schedule.

Upside #2: With x20 and x12 passes, you can bring guests and use your punches with them (once per guest)

Downside #1: Punch Passes cost slightly more per class than standard memberships.

Downside #2: You will not have a private shelf. You will be required to store your projects on community Punch Pass shelves while working on them.

Downside #3: You must find a member of management each time you visit and have your card punched.

There is no wrong answer of how to be a member at The Clay Hole. We offer multiple programs so that everyone has one that fits their needs.

Do I still get access to everything regular Clay Hole members get?

Yes. You get full access to all the tools, equipment, molds, glazes, and underglazes that our monthly members get. Each level of membership comes with access to more. Scroll up to learn what each jump in membership level offers.

How do community Punch Pass shelves work?

All Punch Pass members must store their works-in-progress on the community Punch Pass shelves. These are shelves shared by all Punch Pass members. For this reason, it's very important to clearly label your work as yours, imprint your maker's mark, etc. We are not responsible for missing or mislabeled pottery projects.

All membership levels may store their Punch Pass projects on the standard Punch Pass shelves. Only purple level Punch Pass members may store their projects on the bigger/taller purple level Punch Pass shelves.

DEADLINES AND REMOVAL:

For any large studio, abandoned work can be a serious problem. For this reason, all projects must be moved to the next month's shelf by the deadline posted on the shelf or it will be considered abandoned and thrown-out.

The way deadlines work is simple:

1) You must always place your piece onto the current month's shelves at the end of class. These shelves are clearly marked.

2) You will always have until one day before the end of the following month to move your project to the next set of shelves. For example, if you set a project onto the community shelf on January 15th, you must move it by February 27th. The same is true if you put it on the shelf January 1st or January 31st.

3) On the last day of every month, we remove and discard all projects that have not been moved.

Final note: we cannot find and move your work for you. You will need to come in and do it yourself if you have projects on the shelves. We have structured the deadlines and Punch Pass expirations in such a way that you are pushed to make it in and work on your pottery!

What if I lose my Punch Pass?

Don't lose your Punch Pass because we cannot issue a new one for many different reasons. First, we have no way of knowing how many punches you've used or when. Second, if you eventually find your first Punch Pass, obviously that would put two Punch Passes into rotation. Take extra caution to take care of your Punch Pass, and never leave it on your shelf, in a locker, etc.

What else do I need to pay for along with my Punch Pass?

Like all members, you will need to pay for clay and all glaze firings ($0.05/cubic inch, minimum $4.80).

We do not allow outside clay for any reason.

Can I work on my pottery at home and use my Punch Pass to come finish it?

Working on pottery at home or at another studio and bringing it to The Clay Hole is strictly prohibited. This is to keep production potters and professional potters from abusing our system and gaining cheap access to our $120,000 commercial glaze collection. Any member caught doing this will immediately forfeit their remaining punches and no longer be welcome at The Clay Hole. Thank you for understanding.

If you are a production or professional potter, we'd love to have you, but we take those accounts on a case by case basis with special pricing. Contact us if you'd like to discuss!

Why can't I get a Black Level Membership Punch Pass?

For the same reason as above, it is to keep production potters and professional potters from abusing our system and gaining cheap access to our $120,000 commercial glaze collection. Many of our black level glazes are extremely expensive (and the tools very takeable) and so we do not offer black level for Punch Passes.

If you'd like a Black Level Membership, please join as a standard member. We'd love to have you. Spots are very limited.

How do I get my Punch Pass punched?

You must bring your card and have it punched to attend any class or open studio. Present it to management and get it punched upon arrival. No exceptions. If you forget your card, you’ll need to go home and get it before you may attend class. We have to be extremely strict about this so that the Punch Card system doesn't get abused.

Failure to get your card punched while attending will result in your entire punch card becoming void and no refund will be issued.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my Punch Pass?

Punch passes cannot ever be downgraded to lower membership levels.

You can upgrade, though! Should you wish to upgrade to a higher membership level, you will need to purchase a brand new punch pass at the higher level (with the same number of punches or more), then bring this card to the membership manager for a full refund of any unused punches/classes.

Can I let someone else use or take-over my Punch Pass?

IF YOU ARE SWITCHING TO A STANDARD MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP, you can gift your remaining punch passes to a partner or friend who has never before been a member of The Clay Hole (in other words, you can't sell it or give it to another Clay Hole member). Talk to our membership manager if you wish to give your card away and become a standard member.

This card may not be sold or transferred for any other reason.

Can I get a refund for unused Punch Passes when my card expires?

There are no refunds for unused classes/punches, so be sure to use all your punches! We've made sure to build in plenty of time for you to get them all in.
