Not just once or twice, but literally FIVE times in the past week I have heard the most beautiful thing a guy like ME who’s built a place like THIS can hear…
It was some variation of, “life has been really hard, and I just had to get my butt over here to The Clay Hole to feel better.”
Yes. Yes, yes, yes.
Listen, I don’t know if it’s like this outside of Utah, but there is something in the air right now around here. People are down. They’re discouraged. They’re filled with anxiety about the future and the present. They are having trouble sleeping. It’s just been the last few weeks especially that so many people’s response asking how they’re doing is kind of a, “you know, still alive” type response.
It's our members. It’s my staff. It’s friends. Family. You see it on the faces of people. It’s thick. I don’t know if it’s winter creeping in, or everything happening out there, but it’s heavy right now.
And so, to hear that people are ESCAPING all those hard parts of humaning and are NEEDING pottery classes at The Clay Hole to feel better despite it all.
Well… Shoot. This thing actually worked. The Clay Hole worked. It’s working. Currently. It is becoming the refuge I was hoping it would be when I built it. The same way clay and the kind of people who are attracted to the idea of pottery have been a refuge for me.
I’ve admittedly been losing money on every new member who joins us for this first-month-for-thirty-bucks deal. But people are flooding in. It’s getting expensive, sure. But I keep extending it to more people because the BEST humans keep showing up. Real humans. Good humans. Trying humans. And you can see the weight come off their backs when they walk through the door.
It’ll all pan out in the long run. But right now, I’m not worried about that. I just want as many Utahns as possible to come exhale here at The Clay Hole. Unplug from whatever’s in the air. Even if you don’t think you have a creative bone in your body, just come be part of the goodness. You’ll surprise yourself.
If you’re in Utah… come be part of this with us. I know it probably feels like you can’t fit weekly pottery into your life, but you can. If you’ve watched this far, you probably need to. I hope to see you here.
